Talking about Ninh Binh (Ninh Bình), everyone will think of the famous attractions such as Bai Dinh (Bái Đính) pagoda, Hoa Lu (Hoa Lư), Trang An (Tràng An), Tam Coc (Tam Cốc), etc. But not everyone knows Chau Son (Châu Sơn) Monastery Sacramento – the peaceful and tranquil monastery of the Xito people. Situated in Phu Son (Phú Sơn) commune, Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh province, Chau Son Sacramento Monastery or Chau Son Church is the perfect tourist choice for someone who takes a Ninh Binh tour.

The monastery is 35km far from Ninh Binh city, 65km from Phat Diem (Phát Diệm) Cathedral, 2km from Nho Quan town center and 100km from Hanoi. Depending on your starting point, you can choose suitable transportation.

If you depart from Hanoi, you can take a bus to Gian Khau (Gián Khẩu) junction located on Gia Vien (Gia Viễn) district, Ninh Binh province. From here, if you do not know the route, you can catch a motor taxi or a taxi to the Chau Son Sacramento Monastery. In Vietnam, most drivers are kind and willing to help if you ask questions.

If you have your own transport, from Hanoi, you can go along the 80 km Highway 1A to Gian Khau junction and then turn right. Continuing on No.477 province road for about 18km, you can see a signpost on the right direction that will instruct you to the monastery.

Of course, you can visit Chau Son Sacramento Monastery at any time within the year but it is recommended combining the Chau Son Sacramento Monastery with your Ninh Binh tour. The time you choose will depend on your schedule and vacation. However, the weather in Ninh Binh is almost the same as in Hanoi as the hottest and wettest months include June, July, and August. If you want to visit Ninh Binh as well as Chau Son Sacramento Monastery in the pleasant weather, the best months are September, October, and November. This is because, during this time, the average temperature is around 25°C and you can see the colorful rice fields. On the way to Cuc Phuong (Cúc Phương) National Park, along of Nho Quan river, visitors and tourists will see a cathedral with unique architecture that was built in 1939 by talented priests. That is Chau Son Sacramento Monastery. It took 6 years to complete its construction.

The monastery has the beautiful tranquil beauty that will steal the soul and attract the tourist’s eyes. However, perhaps due to its location in the peaceful countryside behind the main road, Chau Son Sacramento Monastery remains less known. Visiting the monastery, tourists will be astonished at the romantic and poetic natural landscape setting with river, mountains, plants, and lake.

Moreover, visitors also have the chance to admire the singular architecture of Chau Son Sacramento Monastery. Its architecture was designed in Gothic style. The fencing wall with a thickness of 0.6 meters and pillars with 1.2 meters can control the temperature in winter and summer. The wall decorations are harmonious with the window split into two parts: inside are the wooden glass panels and outside are the sculptures with the images of Jesus Chris and Saints. When the natural light infiltrates through the large windows, the decorating patterns and round pillars inside the cathedral become more beautiful. Every pillar and corner shows the seductive charm and ancient beauty.

Not only the main building but also the Priory campus is also the must-see site in the monastery. The Priory campus with its artistic arrangement will make tourists captivated.

A lot of birds often sing in the cathedral. If you are lucky, you will hear them.

Coming to Chau Son Sacramento Monastery is definitely a great experience that makes you feel the sacredness and solemnity

In a normal day, the monastery limits tourists to go inside. But if you are lucky, you can come in. Remember not to make a noise in the sanctuary.

If you do not have a chance to visit inside, you can explore the outside Chau Son Sacramento Monastery that is surrounded by the beautiful green of plants. Looking at the corner of Elephant Garden, you can see a huge pond of catfish. Behind the dining rooms at the end of the guest house is a green garden and a pond of butterfish. Coming to the Chau Son Sacramento Monastery, you should not miss Fatima Garden with Blessed Virgin Mary statue and the Blessed Virgin Mary Cave –the tomb of the priests who devote their lives to build the monastery.

The sacred atmosphere inside and beautiful landscape outside the monastery are definitely appealing to tourists and visitors around the world.

If tourists want to stay overnight, you should book rooms outside the monastery for the best service. The dining rooms here serve many local foods of Ninh Binh.

Those are what we would like to introduce to you about Chau Son Sacramento Monastery. We hope that you can find useful and detailed information here. Wish you have the best trip to Chau Son Sacramento Monastery in Ninh Binh, Vietnam. To know more about Vietnam travel, visit our Vina homepage.
