The Beauty Of Sung La Valley: A Village In Ha Giang, Vietnam

1. The Beauty Of Sung La Valley Seen From Above

From Yen Minh (Yên Minh) to Dong Van town, at Pho Bang (Phó Bảng) crossroads where the pass embraces the green valley, you will be at the highest and most beautiful point to see the whole scenery of Sung La. Here is the most beautiful highland commune of Dong Van stone plateau. From the road looking down, you will see Sung La as a beautiful and peaceful picture. Apart from the green color of corn and rice, tourists can see the purple color of circuit triangle flowers, the yellow color of sunshine, and the dark green color of the forest. Spring is the most beautiful season when the flowers bloom on the rocky plateau. The fields of flowers make the harsh and cold scenery turn into a beautiful picture. Lying on the high mountains, although the life in Sung La is difficult and harsh, the bright smiles are still on the lips of Hmong girls. Sung La valley is actually one of the must-see tourist attractions when coming to Ha Giang.

2. Features Of Sung La Valley

Ha Giang people often call Sung La “an oasis” because it is a valley in the Dong Van stone plateau. And people who like to travel often call Sung La the “rose flower” of the stone plateau. Like other villages in the highland, the locals here plant corn, as well as other staples. Besides, there are rose fields that cover most of the nearby area. The weather here is perfect for rose planting.

For people who are interested in art, they might know that this valley has been chosen as the backdrop for the film “Pao’s Story” based on the short story written by writer Do Bich Thuy. This film reminds us of a beautiful girl named Pao standing among the flower fields. This film has brought to the public the beautiful scenes of Vietnam. “Pao’s house” is planned to become a sightseeing spot. This house has many typical features of Ha Giang province, such as the house, the walls, the pedestal, the yard, and the roof of Ha Giang plateau. In January and February every year, tourists can see Pao’s house covered with peach and pear flowers.

Coming to Lung Cam (Lũng Cẩm) tourism cultural village in Sung La commune, tourists can enjoy the unique cultural features that are still preserved here. The village is in the Sung La valley, with 61 households living in ancient houses. There are three ethnic groups here, and Hmong people make up 85% of the population in the village. The materials, such as the soil, tiles, stone, and wood, to build the houses here are produced locally. The process of building houses here is 100% handmade. The life of the local people will be interesting things for visitors to explore.

When coming to Sung La on the weekend, visitors should not skip Pho Bang (Phó Bảng) market that is not busy like many other famous fairs in the stone plateau. Pho Bang market only opens in the morning, but it is enough to dispel the tranquility in this highland. This market is a unique cultural feature characterized by highland areas. This is not only a place to sell and buy, but it is also a place for people to meet and chat, for boys and girls to make friends and date. The Hmong boys lead the horse packing goods. The colorful girl’s outfit is as beautiful as the painting. Listen to the flute of the Hmong boys to call their partners. Eat a “thang co” (thắng cố) bowl and simple corn cakes, and taste a little spicy corn wine.

3. The Beauty Of The Locals

The rustic people here also contribute to the beauty of Sung La valley. People here are honest, hospitable, and friendly; so, visitors will really feel comfortable and relaxed. Tourists can easily see the children with colorful towels playing in the fields, Hmong people cultivating buckwheat flowers on high hills and planting corn and rice in the bottom of the valley, all of which make a poetic and peaceful scenery when combined with the sunset light.

Although people here do not use the Kinh language much, they are still willing to give a bowl of water to visitors. Many visitors prefer to travel to Ha Giang, but they often come to Sung La for beautiful spots. They sometimes ask the native people to take a sip of water, visit the local market, or go for a walk to enjoy the natural beauty of this place.

Tourists can discover more beautiful places in Sung La valley, take photos, and enjoy all the delicious dishes here. You will feel the fresh air with friendly local people. A trip to Sung La will be unforgettable for all visitors. So, if you are looking for a quiet and beautiful place, Sung La Valley in Ha Giang will be an ideal destination for you.
