Hanoi grilled pork vermicelli, well known as ‘bún chả’, is a famous local food in Hanoi and it is often thought to originate from Hanoi. This delicious dish consists of grilled fatty pork, white rice noodle, local herbs and dipping sauce/broth. You can find a ‘bún chả’ with ease everywhere, from street vendors to big restaurants.

‘Bún chả’ is a food creation with rice noodle as a main ingredient. Unlike Pho, Hanoi grilled pork vermicelli is thinner and has the vermicelli shape – “bún”. In order to eat ‘bún chả’, you just need to dip the noodles into the sauce flavoured with fresh herbs, garlic, sliced papaya, and red chili. ‘Bún chả’ Huong Lien or ‘bún chả’ Obama is a well-known name in the community as one of the best destinations to sell ‘bún chả’ in Hanoi. After the visit of U.S President Obama, ‘bún chả’ Huong Lien has become famous to the world’s restaurants. You may hear that they have changed the food menu to include a set of ‘bún chả’ Obama. The Obama set includes a bowl of ‘bún chả’, one drink of your choice, fresh herbs as well as a big piece of crab spring roll.

Actually, it has been long famous to the locals and tourists in Hanoi since 1993. This restaurant is very famous due to its delicious soup and well-fried crab spring rolls. This restaurant has a delicious sauce taste that is a mixture of sugar and vinegar. And, the grilled pork is soft combined with strong taste of grilled onion, creating delicious “cha”. Apart from grilled pork and slice meat, eaters can order 1-2 more “Nem cua be” (sea-crab spring roll) in order to serve with ‘bún chả’. ‘Bún chả’ Tuyet on Hang Than street is a great destination for eaters who want to enjoy this dish. A set of ‘bún chả’ here looks great because rice noodle, “cha” and local herbs are set in a clean tray. Although it is located in the old quarters, but a set of ‘bún chả’ here is so cheap and reasonable, about 2 USD. A bowl of cha consists of 4-5 minced and grilled meat, and about 10 grilled slice meat. Both types of “cha” are grilled moderately, so they taste sweet and soft. Like other ‘bún chả’ restaurants in Hanoi, “cha” here includes minced meat and slice meat and many eaters love slice meat here because slice meat is thin and well- grilled. Also, “cha” is in quite dark color due to the color of sugar sauce. Besides, due to the sugar sauce deeply soaking into the slice meat combined with fish sauce, a set of ‘bún chả’ here is very impressive.
