Hanoi Opera House is an architectural work in Hanoi, Vietnam to serve the artistic performance. The theater is located on the August Revolution Square, the head of Trang Tien Street, near Hoan Kiem Lake and the Museum of Vietnamese History. The construction was started by the French in 1901 and completed in 1911. It was built in the form of the Opéra Garnier Theater in Paris, but it is smaller and uses materials suitable for local climatic conditions. It was designed by two architects Harley and Broyer. It was built in a total area of 2600 square meters with the 87-meter length and 30-meter width. Like other theaters in Europe in the early 20th century, the work brings many colors and the unique architecture of theaters in the south of France with the way of organizing the premises, performance space, stairs, entrancing to the hall. Although it is a similar architecture and mixed with many styles, Hanoi Opera House still brings the appearance of the French Neo-Classic, especially in the structure of architecture, two-piece roof type covered with black stone. Built later than theaters in Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong, Hanoi Opera House has the complete architecture and become a typical symbol of Hanoi.

Hanoi Opera House is the place to take place a lot of cultural, musical, and artistic performances of Vietnamese and foreign art troupes. Moreover, this is also a place to witness the history of more than 100 years of Vietnam, and it is a witness in the resistance war against France and US to save the country. Over the years of war, the theater was greatly degraded, but it was restored and repaired carefully, which makes it the most beautiful theater in Southeast Asia.

Coming to the theater, here are activities you can try. Visiting Hanoi Opera House, tourists not only enjoy interesting performances but also admire the beautiful and luxurious architecture, modern and classic. It is also the place to witness the first cultural and artistic contacts between Vietnam and the West, especially chamber songs, musicals, and operas. There are 3 main areas: the main hall, mirror room, and audience room:

The main hall is the first place to welcome guests to the theater. It is covered with high-quality stones which were imported from Italy and arranged carefully. On the wall, there is a small copper-clad chandelier system with antique style. This light system creates luxury and nobility for the theater.

The mirror room is the room that organizes important ceremonies, where regularly welcomes senior Vietnamese and Party characters and heads of State. It is a place where party state meetings and international conferences are taken place. The mirror room is also a place to perform art shows and conduct small conferences. The mirror room has many big doors and many chandeliers and the lights hanging in the corners with classical French direction. When the chandeliers are turned on, they will make the room shimmering like in a room which has a lot of mirrors. The mirror room was restored according to Mozaic technique. Mirror floor stone is a high-quality stone imported from Italy, instructed by skilled Italian workers to ensure sophistication.

Finally, the audience room has a large stage and audience seats with 598 seats for all three floors. The floor is paved with high-class tiles and fire-proof carpets; the seats are designed in the 19th-century French style, surrounded by classic copper wall lamps. On the ceiling, there is a large chandelier system with new technology. Behind the auditorium, there are a lot of rooms including administration room, 18 make-up rooms, 2 room of voice training, 1 library and 1 meeting room. Tourists can also visit and buy souvenirs at the gallery of Hanoi Opera House.

The interesting thing is that tourists can visit Nineteen11 restaurant with unique space and impressive design, located right in the basement of the theater. Nineteen11 was prepared to build in 1997, but it was come into operation in 2007. The restaurant has a VIP room with unique glass walls, wine cellar, and interconnecting corridors, all of which create the characteristic for the restaurant.

Therefore, Hanoi Opera House becomes one of the most famous and popular attractions for tourists when visiting Hanoi. Travelers will have great experience of watching the art shows and visit some attractive destinations of Hanoi such as Hoan Kiem Lake, Dong Xuan Market, Hanoi Old Quarter, etc.
