Ho Chi Minh Museum is one of the largest museums in Vietnam; it is located at No.19 Ngoc Ha Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi. The museum focuses mainly on the display of artifacts and materials about the life and personality of Ho Chi Minh. It is located on an area with many historical relics such as President Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum, Presidential Palace Relic Area, and One Pillar Pagoda, forming a complex of relics attracting domestic and international tourists. The Ho Chi Minh Museum was built in the area where he read the Declaration of Independence. It was constructed on August 31, 1985, and inaugurated on May 19, 1990, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday.

Since Ho Chi Minh Museum was established, the number of tourists who visit the museum rise continuously. Especially, on big holidays, weekends, the number of visitors is up to 20,000 people. The Ho Chi Minh Museum is not only a large architectural work, the invaluable asset of the Vietnamese nation but also the crystallization between thousands of years of cultural tradition of the Vietnamese people with deep gratitude people for a great person.

The Museum was designed by the chief Russian architect Garbonzo and built with the help of the Soviet people. The museum building has a square shape and three floors with nearly 20 m high. Each length of 70m carries an ethereal white lotus symbol to remind of Lotus Village – his hometown.

What Is The Best Time To Visit?

Ho Chi Minh Museum opens every day except Monday and Friday. In the morning, it starts from 8 am to 11:30 am and begins from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Tourists who are Vietnamese will not have to pay the entrance fee. Foreign visitors cost about VND 25,000/ ticket to visit the Presidential Palace Historical Site.

What Are Activities To Do?


Ho Chi Minh Museum stores more than 12,000 documents, artifacts, and original film about President Ho Chi Minh. They are preserved and displayed with the content including three main parts:

  • The introduction shows the revolutionary life and career of President Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnamese people carry out his testament. This section consists of documents, artifacts, documentaries, artworks presented systematically, and it is the main journey with eight topics:
  • Topic 1: You will be introduced to his biography in order from his birth until his death. It is started with artifacts and images of his hometown, his parents and his siblings from Uncle Ho’s childhood from 1890 to 1910.
  • Topic 2: Next is the journey to find a way to save the country full of hardships. He came to many countries, did many jobs to study the path of national liberation from 1911 to 1920.
  • Topic 3: Materials and images that describe his time in France and his contributions to the nation. These documents also show one of the first members who found the Communist Party Production of France.
  • Topic 4: You will have access to documents about the stage of Ho Chi Minh’s thought forming and the major changes in practical activities. This is the period when he prepares aspects of ideology, reasoning, and guideline for the birth of a party in Vietnam, the party representing the first working class in Vietnam.
  • Topic 5: This area displays artifacts during the period of the establishment of the Communist Party of Vietnam on the way to gain independence from French Colonialists. There are also many documents showing the years of revolutionary Uncle Ho’s imprisonment in Hong Kong and Guangxi.
  • Topic 6: The period of his life was deeply attached to the 9-year resistance war in the northwestern forest to protect the administration from 1945 to 1954.
  • Topic 7: Ho Chi Minh’s diplomatic activities and the process of rebuilding the North and fighting in the South of Vietnam.
  • Topic 8: The final document on Uncle Ho is also the most painful time of the nation when he left forever in 1969.
  • The next part exhibits about Vietnam, the struggle and victory of the Vietnamese people in the Ho Chi Minh era.
  • The last part, which is the thematic sections on a number of world historical events, affects the revolutionary life of President Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnamese revolution.

Ho Chi Minh Museum also has exhibition space on topics about President Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, and other topics. The museum has not only a place to preserve artifacts and materials but also a library with more than 1,500,000 books serving for the study of President Ho Chi Minh. To research and educate science about the life and revolutionary career of President Ho Chi Minh, Ho Chi Minh Museum also provides professional guidance and memorial monument of President Ho Chi Minh throughout the country. It is a place to exchange professional activities with some museums in foreign countries such as Russia, China, Laos, France, and Thailand.

When coming here, tourists can discover Ho Chi Minh’s living and working space. You also have a chance to explore the daily life of Uncle Ho in the museum such as Uncle Ho’s rubber sandals; film activities; the program “Pac Bo revolutionary;” and reading newspapers, typing letters, and Uncle’s poems. It opens in the time from 9 am to 11: 30 pm on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
